You Know it's Love by Jen Morris

Synopsis:

I have three rules for dating:
1. Always be my best self
2. Don’t put out too soon
3. Stay the hell away from anyone like my ex-husband—including liars, cheaters, guys with more looks than substance, and (especially important) bartenders
Everyone says you “just know” when you meet the one, but the only thing I know is New York men are the worst. So when Myles, the cocky, tattooed bartender at my brother’s bar starts hitting on me, it’s a hard pass, thanks. I won’t make that mistake again.
Besides, I have enough going on with my ex trying to run my vintage clothing store out of business. So what if I’d rather be selling my own designs? I have bills to pay.
But it turns out Myles is good at more than just looking sexy while pouring drinks. He knows how to save my business, and that’s an offer I can’t refuse. Everything else he’s offering? Not interested—not in the slightest. Not even if he could be the best mistake I ever make…

My Review:

This was the second book by Jen and this time it's Cat’s turn for a story and a HEA.
I think this was my first friends to lovers read and it’s not my normal go to trope but this book has changed the way I thought about that so now I’m off to add more onto my wishlist!
This the book had everything I love: sarcastic characters, fake relationship for a chapter, great friends, real storylines.

I loved how Cat and even me (!)  presumed Myles was a bartender who was having to flirt for extra tips as he needed the money, used to live in a van and how empty the flat was!  But he actually had a secret which I was surprised at!

I wish I could go to New York and buy clothes from Cat, I'm sure she could make me something great to wear! I loved how much Jen described Kat's shop and the bar where Myles works and owned by Cat's brother.

I'm thinking I know who Harriet (Alex's sister) will be set up with in book 3

but for now, I'm saying thank you to Jen for writing another great story, and transporting me to New York when I can't even leave the UK

My Review:

This was my first  Christmas read during winter 2020 and it was a great way to start. I've only read a few of Helen's books so I knew I was going to be in for a treat reading this one - and I wasn't let down. This was my first 5star read since September!!

When I read the description about the book, I liked how it wasn't the standard job roles for either characters.I liked that it was different in this kind of genre as in most books I read, Lucy would of been the Waffle Shack owner and Daniel would be the blacksmith.

I loved reading this book as it was such a perfect Christmas read as it was a such a cute, light fluffy read. And that describing the book and the waffles mentioned.

All the talk about waffles: flavours, shapes and toppings. The ones that sounded particularly yummy was the festive ones - gingerbread one sounded right up my street!

I could talk about waffles forever, but there is actually a darker part to this story and its through Daniel when he talks about his troubled past when he left Heritage Cove for a long time! FYI, trigger warnings for this book is: abusive dad, alcohol, drunk driving and death by a drunk driver.

I enjoyed how Lucy brought Daniel the past out of him slowly and not rushed it out like most do. I'm also not normally a fan of a slowburn romance but I found this the perfect pace and the only kiss happened near enough at the end and then the last few chapters was the characters starting the relationship!

I think this is one of the perfect Christmas books this year to read r to even gift to a fellow reader. so here is the link to buy it on amazon!

Love in the City by Jen Morris

Synopsis:

Have you ever stopped to look around at your life and realized nothing is how you want it?

Turning thirty has a way of making you take a good, hard look at your life. And I think we all know what any sensible adult does in that situation: tequila shots. Lots of them.

It’s okay, though, because I’ve finally escaped my tiny New Zealand home town and my negative parents. And New York is better than my wildest fantasies.

So is Michael, the sexy single dad who lives in the apartment upstairs. And he’s featuring in my fantasies more and more—even if he’s a grump and I only ever seem to make a dork of myself in front of him. Ah well, a girl can dream.

Anyway, I’ve got a writing career to build, and writing about being single is fun. If that means swearing off men for a bit, that’s fine. I can totally do that. It’s just a tiny crush.

Besides… happily ever afters aren’t real. Are they?

My Review:

It’s my turn on the blog tour today for Jen’s debut book and I’d just like to say a  quick thank you to Jen for writing such a lovely book and letting my read and review it. And also thank you Kira for asking me if I wanted to read it, how can I say no to those kind of offers?

Right now onto my review, firstly it was describing New York amazing and it was making me able to picture/imagine travel there and walk around all the places Alex experienced for the first times.

The bits I enjoyed reading the most about was where Alex lived, it wasn't like a typical story where Alex was a confident woman who landed in New York with a perfect life sorted. In fact it was a drunken accident that lead to her booking a flight to New York and renting an apartment which didn’t exist😂

I also loved the parts that were set at the log cabin during the winter, I could just picture that snuggly places and the non snuggly parts 😉

I could picture this a movie or even a TV series which I would 100% be one of the first viewers!

This book came out yesterday, so here is the link to buy it. What are you waiting for!

My Review:

I’ve finally managed to write down my thoughts a whole week after reading it! It was really hard to write my review straight away because I wanted to write all the spoilers and my every single thought! So I’ve deiced to only choose a handful.

I read the last 100+ pages whilst I was on the plane, so I got to the most saddest part whilst I was in the air. As I was wearing my mask, (such a 2020 sentence)!
No one saw me gasp and intense shock into this book.

When I read Intimate Strangers I didn’t like the sound of Jeremy and wasn’t sure if I would enjoy reading a whole book about him, but I was so wrong I liked this one more! I knew for IS, it wasn't going to be a normal romance,  it this one was more of a friendship between Jeremy & AJ and also Jeremy & Chelsea.

I loved reading about how Jeremy and AJ met, how they became room mates and found it sound so cute that they went to each others families at Christmas time.

I knew Jeremy’s parents were going to be victims at a mass shooting but I still wasn’t prepared when I read the scenes leading up to it. I know it’s a book, but I still felt such sadness for Jeremy and how he dealt with the grief was so real!

I can imagine this book being a movie, and I would defo watch it. I think this is a book everyone should read and come talk to me about it after to see if you like Jeremy or not, if  you think him and Chelsea should be couple!

My Review:

I finished this book in a day and made me wonder why I haven’t read more books by both authors (I’ve only read 2 by Laura). This book is the kind of one to be described a perfect beach read - it’s a light, flirty and so damn addictive enemies to lovers book.

I loved the budding relationship between Katy and Felix as they go on their road trip to find a teaching job. I was laughing tat the pranks they was pulling on each other so they had one up on the interview. The bit I really giggled at was went the accidentally stumbled across a swingers festival and then was being interviewed the next day but one of the attendees.

Even though Katy’s husband and her sister was having an affair, I still wished she had found out differently - I think I gasped at the part when she found out that someone else already knew (can’t give the spoiler away!)

Anyway, I’m off to go add Andie’s and Laura’s books to my ever growing to buy list!

My Review:

I haven’t read a Holly Martin book for a few years and I forgot how much I loved her writing! I loved the story and the blossoming relationship from friends to lovers between Clover and Angel! I also want to go visit Jewel Island as it sounds so lovely! This is a great read to enjoy whilst the weather turns cooler but I read it during the heatwave and was hard to imagine/picture the crisp leafs and everything about autumn, whilst I’m sitting in the garden sweating

I loved reading about Angel’s trip in Dubai, as I knew all of the places mentioned especially the bits of the picture frame as I saw it being built over a few years!

I just adored the parts where Clover and Angel just walked around the island and I really want to go to that Funfair! Make your own candy apples and waffles - yes please!

The other place I’d have to visit is Clover’s sister ice cream shop as it sounds so cute and I just love making my own ice cream/frozen yogurt!

This is the perfect autumnal book and another great book by Holly! And if you have kindle unlimited it’s free - so what’s not to love!

My Review:

Have you ever want to rush finishing a book because you want to move on but also cause you want to find out what happens? I did enjoy this book but only gave it 3 stars as it felt something missing in the middle. I got a bit annoyed at the Sam & Jess storyline and found it a bit cringe but just loved the ending part for Jess!

I kept getting confused when the flash backs happened, maybe because I was reading it as a proof copy on the kindle and had a different layout than a real copy?

I loved Jess as a character at the end and finally worked out what she wanted in life, it made me really want to become an artist and move to Sydney!

I got annoyed at Sam, and found him a bit in a rut working out who he actually wanted in life? He completely changed for Jamie, and I couldn’t help but think he was doing that so could be loved and not left behind, did anyone else think this?

I can see this book being pushed as the new Flatshare or for readers of Paige Toon (which style I can kinda sense!) But even though I did enjoy this book, I rated it 3 stars as it was just missing something for me

Has anyone else read this book? If so, what did you think it?

This Time Next Year by Sophie Cousens

Synopsis: When Minnie meets Quinn at a NYE party, it’s clear that they’ve got nothing in common – except for the strange fact of their being born in the same place at the same time on New Year’s Eve. A crazy coincidence, but not a reason to pursue a friendship, and definitely not an excuse for Quinn to hope for something more.

He is a privileged party boy who believes the world is his for the taking. She is a hard-working realist, whose lack of confidence tends to hold her back.
Opposites don’t really attract…it’s not like this is a rom-com, right?
The clock strikes midnight, their moment passes, and another year begins. But if Quinn and Minnie are from different worlds, why do they keep bumping into each other? And why is it that each frustrating interaction somehow seems to push their lives in the right direction? Could it be that instead of clashing, their different outlooks might complement each other? Perhaps now is the time for them to finally come together...

My Review:

I requested this on Netgalley back in April but recently got invited onto the blog tour and I’m glad I didn’t say no as I really enjoyed this book and the story between Minnie and Quinn.

I’m sure people will be comparing this to Our Stop, but I found this a lot more interesting and less infuriating when you realise they’ve between intwined all fo their lives. Literally -n they was born ad the same hospital on the same time, just Quinn is a few minutes older and managed to steal the title of being the first baby borned in anew year in London which meant they received a lot of money and different money opportunities.

Where as Minnie was born Minnie Cooper - yes you can imagine the jokes she must of got all through her life! Her mum always said you would of been luckier and better off in life if you was Quinn Cooper (poor Minnnie!)

The book goes through different years of both of their lives and shows how they have know each other all their lives(without knowing - some bits are super cute: especially when they was at the club on NYE.

The chapters I also enjoyed when both Minnie and Quinn was when they was at the ponds on Sundays and having bacon rolls, it was just a sweet wa they was getting on with over showing themselves.

I also loved Lelia - Minnie’s best friend who is also her business partner in Delivery pies for the vulnerable and the elderly. They’ve had some great adventures - the chapters when they was in India was hilarious!

I also enjoyed reading about the two girls working for the pie business: Fleur and Beverly. Fleur is someone who is always making up outrageous stories about friends and past lovers but are they actually true? - Read it to find out!

I also found Beverly a lovely character who is elderly but is worried about her impact on the world and the environment - so much so getting a reusable shampoo bottle!

Overall, I think you should go and buy this book as it;s so interesting and doesn’t just focus on the love relationship

Also there are some triggers in this book: miscarriage, cheating and depression

My Review:

When I saw Laura had a new book out and was looking for people to review it, I just knew I had to sign up! I read two of her books last year and really enjoyed them so it was guaranteed that this would be a good read and it didn’t let me down!

Where do I start reviewing and summing up my thoughts about this book. I thought at first it would be a bit boring with the girls doing the pub up but it was actually quite interesting and could imagine the pub and how terrible it must of been when they first arrived!

Not only does Ella has have a pub to do up, be he sensible one out of the sisters and ignoring the rude comments about being English. She has to put up with Clooney - the good looking, ladies man and can use his skills behind the bar as well. Another reason why they should work together - his dad runs the other pub in town: which then sparks a quite amusing payback to teach other, for example: cutting the electrics, planting dead rats and many other things!

Also, I was smiling so hard at the epilogue (four years into the future),m I just loved the ending - I'm now off to go add all of Laura's books onto my wish list - minus the 2 I read last year

Overall, I think if you like books about a small town, enemies to lovers romance or you'll enjoy this and if you're a fan of Olivia Spring books this is defo a book for you!

Here is link to buy it as a Kindle Edition, it's also on kindle unlimited and like mentioned above it's publication date is the 28th July

The Middle Aged Virgin in Italy by Olivia Spring

Synopsis:

When Sophia moves to Tuscany to join the hot Italian-stallion she’s fallen head over heels in love with, she dreams of an idyllic life filled with passion, pasta, sunshine and her favourite gelato. But will the reality live up to the fairy-tale? The Middle-Aged Virgin in Italy is a fun, sexy sequel about stepping out of your comfort zone and keeping the spark alive in a relationship. If you like Sophie Kinsella and Sophie Ranald, you’ll love the latest novel in Olivia Spring’s page-turning, romantic comedy series. Can a holiday romance lead to long-term love?

Publication Date: 16th July 2020

My Thoughts:

Olivia Spring is one of my favourite authors and I love every single book that she writes, so I was super happy when she asked me to review this book! I really wanted to know hat would happen to Sophia in Italy and read this book in a matter of a few days!

After I finished The Middle Aged Virgin, I just knew I had to find what happened next to Sophia, the baby and Lorenzo.

As predicted, I fell back into her life and could just imagine a the little Italian village where she was currently living. The residents are rude and don’t speak english and her mother in law is just as horrible as I imagined her to be. The thing with Olivia’s writing is that I could just picture Martha and her lack on speaking the English language (or can she)?

Honestly I loved the deepening relationship between Lorenzo and Sophia, the surprise trip to Florence and the surprise arrangements during the trip. If I was more confident, I would love to drive around the city on a vespa - how cool would it look?

Sophia is also lonely and struggling learning Italian - so luckily she combines both together and goes to classes and meets some new friends!

I really could write every single thing that happened in this book, but instead I will just summarise the bits I loved most: the friendships Sophia has - both old and new, the struggle with trying to have the body she reads about in all the beauty magazines, struggling with not only the locals but also the mother in law and lastly the love she has for Lorenzo and how he helps her with all different aspects of her life!

To order the book, I'll attach the link to buy it on Amazon or free if you have kindle unlimited Kindle Book

My Review:

I didn’t really like the start the start of the book and I wondered if I would actually enjoy this book? I was around 140 pages in and thought about not finishing it. I think if it wasn’t a book to review, I would have stopped reading by now.

I decided to plough through this book as I was on a blog tour for it! And I'm glad I did carry on reading as after 200 pages the story actually finally started to make sense and all the characters secrets linked to each other!

I was about pages in when it finally got to the twist - thought there was to much storyline before it! I was right about one of the plots but I didn’t really put together what happens between Alice and Hugo.

Well I finally got to the plot twist and I must say I wasn’t expecting that, there is two points that I didn’t think of/guessing. A few subtle hints: Eddie and Chris, was not expecting that showdown!

I gave this book a four star rating, as the beginning I really didn’t enjoy it but I really enjoyed the last lot of chapters. And I certainly wasn’t expecting that ending!

My Review:
I'd first like to say this book is completely out of my normal genres and defiantly would never buy it for myself to read! But I was messaged asking if I would review and I couldn't say no
It’s extremely different to by normal go to genres but I was messaged to ask to review it. And if t I can say it actually had an interesting storyline beside all steamy scenes - and trust me there was lots😂🙈 (from page 20 and onwards)

This is a book where I want to talk about all thing that have happened but I shan't as it would defo be giving away spoilers!

All I can say is that it involves a lot of over riding security systems, hacking computer software, legal talk and loads of steamy scenes  !!

This was a new author to me, and I can safely say that I will definitely be reading books by her in the future!

About the Author

Taryn Leigh Taylor likes dinosaurs, bridges and space, both personal and of the final-frontier variety. She shamelessly indulges in cliches, most notably her Starbucks addiction, her shoe hoard and her penchant for falling in lust with fictional men with great abs. She also really loves books, which is what sent her down the crazy path of writing one in the first place.

Beach Read by Emily Henry

About the book:
Two writers, One Holiday. A Romcom Waiting to Happen!

He doesn't believe in happy endings. She's lost her faith that they exist. But could they find one together?

January is a hopeless romantic who likes narrating her life as if she's the heroine in a blockbuster movie. Augustus is a serious literary type who thinks true love is a fairy-tale.
January and Augustus are not going to get on. But they actually have more in common than you'd think:
They're both broke. They've got crippling writer's block. They need to write bestsellers before the end of the summer.
The result? A bet to see who can get their book published first. The catch? They have to swap genres. The risk? In telling each other's stories, their worlds might be changed entirely...

My Thoughts:

For the last few months, I've been seeing reviews about this book everywhere. On instagram, goodreads, twitter and even some facebook groups I'm in! So when I saw there was going to be a heatwave, I thought it would be the perfect time to read this book.

From reading reviews, I knew it wouldn't be a cute fluffy book to read on holiday which I found quite refreshing!

For the first 30% I didn't enjoy this book and wondered why so many people loved this so much and I just couldn't stand the hype but after the chapters at the movie drive thru 😉 I began to love both characters and soon after that I couldn't put the book down and wanted to find out what happened next.

I loved the small parts where they go to each other planned days/nights out for their book research and the bits where they was sitting at the desks writing each other notes!

I also find it clever for the author to write a storyline/book where the main character is also planning a story but this book had two stories to make up and I kept wondering how complicated I'd find that!

Anyone if you haven't read this book yet, it's currently 99p and for only a limited time!  Amazon

I never normally think abut the questions at the end of the book but I thought I'd answer some of them. I'd love to hear your answers too!

  1. What traditional romance tropes do you see used in Beach Read? Past lovers, neighbours and frenemies to lovers
  2. If you could visit one setting from the book, with one of the characters, whom and where would you choose? I think I'd have to go Augustus's house overlooking the lake and of course it would have to be Gus with me!
  3. Have you ever felt 'book shamed' for liking a particular genre? Quite often! I've only recently starting romantic comedy books but I normally read books which are based around a character moving to a new town and opening up a: cafe, restaurant, farm or any kind of business at a certain area: seaside, country, on the pier! But I enjoy reading them so who cares!
  4. Do you believe in the idea of Happily Ever After? What would your HEA look like i real life? I'd like to believe that there is a HEA for everyone and that I would get a chance of one. As I mentioned above about the books I read, I would love to move to the seaside and open up a little cafe or an ice cream shop! Maybe I could settle down there with my HEA Love maybe meeting him after I set up my shop?
  5. Do you read books with a certain kind of ending? Yes! form my cute little reads, to thrillers and friends to lovers/ fake relationship books (what's the genre again?)
  6. What is your perfect beach read? I haven't found my perfect beach read for this year but I't would most probably be a book by Heidi Swain or a thriller based at a seaside!
  7. If there was a sequel, what do you reckon comes next for them? I'd love for them to write a book together and could possibly be a different genre all together? Or maybe they could travel the country together and go to scary and cute places together!
